Team North America was an absolute joy to watch but I don't want to see them return to the next World Cup unless the NHL allows players to go to the Olympics, which seems unlikely at this point. I love best on best international tournaments. If the Olympics are no longer going to be a stage for that then I would like to see the World Cup fill that void.

If the NHL continues to allow players to participate at the Olympics, and I can get my international fix that way, I have no problem with the gimmicky North American 23-and-under team returning to the next World Cup. That said, I'd still prefer to see Connor McDavid, Johnny Gaudreau, Auston Matthews and co. representing their actual countries so we can see a true best on best and they actually have something to play for.

HEAR HEAR!!!

Better question would be: should there be another world cup of Hockey?

Personally I hope they don't do another World Cup. Stick with the Olympics every four years.

USA sure could have used some of those kids. I would have loved to see Matthews on our team. He looks to be "as advertised".

Morally, the NHL has no business in the Olympics.

Financially, they have no business in the Oympics.

That the Olympics somehow matter more than the exact teams playing each other under the title of something else is an illusion.

There aren't enough good countries to make the tournament good.

Canada is so dominant I can't even make myself care whether they win like they should or get unlucky and lose.

Countries themselves are just arbitrary points on a map. Living in Toronto, I have much more in common with people from the north-east United States than anyone west of Thuderbay. I mean, look at a map, we're about as Canadian, from a geographical standpoint, than Alaska is American.

So I say, let's forget international rivalries, make two teams that are evenly matched and watch them play for seven games every four years.

WCoHockey - every four years offset with the Olympics

I liked this years format... as there were really no doormat teams. Definitely bring back the U23/24 concept... but be prepared that they may not be quite as electric going forward... this team did have McDavid, Gaudrea and Matthews... its not likely you are going to have that type of group come along every single four years.

There is a certain aura to Olympic hockey that can't be met by the WCOH. Not to mention there are lots of talented players outside the NHL that were not able to participate that do in the Olympics.

Every person who has ever used the word gimmick in reference to this tournament is a fool.

Also bringing France and crap like that in completely removes any best on best part of the game.

Sky love for team Europe? You know, that team that is still in the tourney?

The best way to showcase talent is to have three best players in the game on competitive teams play. This setup was perfect and from the moment it was announced i was confident it would be the best hockey tournament that has ever been played in the history of hockey.

The fact that you think you have nothing in common with us out here in the west makes me very proud.

Push the gimmick further. Split Canada into provincial teams.

Tell this to a player like Alexander Ovechkin who's threatening to retire from the NHL next season of the NHL doesn't allow Olympic participation.

Fact of the matter is most people are nationalist creatures and Olympic hockey panders to the sense of pride and country. I don't need to tell you about American nationalism. It's pretty rampant. From what I can tell on these boards, Canadians seem to be pretty damn nationalistic, at least about their hockey. The Canadians here are constantly teasing the Americans about being inferior on the ice, and that wouldn't happen if most Canadians didn't care about state boarders. There's been countless polls ran in the EU of how people identify themselves and the people who identify themselves as Europeans first and their country second are always majorly in the minority. You can't discount nationalism just because you think it's for the birds.

As much as I (frank)ing loved Team NA, NA and Europe killed the whole idea of international competition, which is one of my favorite things in the world. Maybe a lot of it was that Team USA was a farce and I wanted to boycot them to begin with, but I think even if USA didn't (frank) everything up I still wouldn't have cared that much about American international success in this tournament. If the NHL decides to sit out the Olympics they owe it to the majority of the fanbase that loves that tournament to replace it as best they can with WCoH.

Now if the NHL stays in the Olympics, by all means keep rolling out Team NA. That was fantastic fun.

Personally, I'd like to see an All-Black Team. Subban, Ward, Smith-Pelley, etc.

How about Canada East and Canada West? Spilts up the team that all the others say is the one to beat. And just maybe allows Subban and Hall to wear red and white for once.
